华盛顿州立大学提供超过200样不同范畴的教学及150种专业学位，根据美国新闻与世界报道的大学排名，华盛顿州立大学在美国排名第118名。大学共分文理学、商科经济、工程建筑、农科及家政、教育、药剂、护理和兽医学8个学院。学生选修最多的学科，依次是：商科管理(22%)、社会科学(11%)、工程(11%)、大众传播(9%)、健康科学(8%)。最多的一科是酒店及餐室管理课程，排名在全国5名内。学校的工程学院十分出色，土木工程排全美第六十位，材料工程专业排名第五十二位，机械工程排名第五十四位。据《美国高等教育处鉴》记录，该校植物学专业及动物学专业取得的研究经费在大型研究类大学中排第十。同时，学校的传媒学院在《传媒季刊》中评为全美第十二，广播电视新闻负责人联合协会把该专业评为全美前四，而广告人专业组织则把学校的广告设计专业评为全美第九。
